JCAG MEETING MINUTES
10/2/08
Present at the meeting were: Ruth McCrea, Jack Griggs, Deb Stewart, Sue Wallace, Bonnie Hellman, Ben & Mary McFarlin, Pat Feinberg, Bob Peterson, Tish Collins, Betty Cotter, Ron Cloyd, and Harold Snider.
- Featured program – Deb Stewart showed everyone how to make paintbrushes out of yucca stems, like the Native Americans have been doing for centuries. Once everyone made a brush, Deb showed us all how to use them to lay down lines of slip and create designs. Deb also demonstrated how she makes her human hair brushes.
- Workshop pictures – Ron did an outstanding job of documenting the Randy Broadnax/Don Ellis workshop and brought enough CD’s with all of his pictures to share with the membership. Thanks Ron!
- Wood Firing at Bob Walsh’s in the glow worm kiln – Sue, Ruth, Jack, Bonnie, Ben, Bob Peterson, Ron, and Betty all expressed an interest in participating. It was felt that Joanie, Nina, and Cindy (not present) would be interested too.
- Kiln building workshop – Randy has agreed to do a 3-day kiln building workshop over the Memorial Day weekend in 2009. Eight of those present expressed an interest in this opportunity. Cost of the workshop will be $300.
- Copper Matte workshop at Ben & Mary’s – There will be a copper matte workshop at Grand Junction Ceramics this coming Saturday to reinforce in everyone’s mind how to do this. The workshop will be from 9 to 2 or so on Saturday, October 18th. See you there.
- Fundraiser for The Art Center Show in January of 2009 – It was suggested by Deb Stewart that the guild make “rocks” like the ones that we did at the Broadnax/Ellis workshop to be sold at the Guild show at the Art Center to raise funds for the guild. Harold will check with Camille to see if this would be permissible.
