August 5

There are no meeting minutes this month, because we did not have a business meeting.  Instead, we had a potluck hosted by Joanie Post.  It was to be a combination potluck and video "show & tell".  We had so much fun talking though and ran out of time to share the videos that we had brought.  Betty Cotter is hosting a potluck on Sunday the 28th of August (see below) and those with interesting pottery related videos can bring them to this potluck.

The second annual Clay Challenge was held at The Art Center this last Friday.  It was a wild and wacky event as well as some serious clay competition.

Events included:

  • handle pulling
  • most pots in 10 minutes
  • largest pot
  • blindfolded throwing
  • throwing with a partner
  • "Shepherd Challenge"

JCAG members took the first 3 places.  Cindy Logue captured first place.  There was a "throw-off for second and third place between Melanie Doerpholz, and Wayne Petefish in which Melanie emerged victorious.  It was definitely a fun event with ample goofiness to make it most memorable.

Raku kiln-building workshop

Scheduled for this coming weekend, the 13th and 14th at Ben and Mary's Grand Junction Ceramics at 2807 C1/2 Road.  I think that the starting time on Saturday is 9:00 AM.  If that is different, I will email everyone with a corrected time.  Bring work gloves, as you will be handling metal with sharp edges.

Sunday, August 28, 2005, the Cotters will be hosting a
potluck get together for the JCAG.  People are encouraged to
show up at 2:00 p.m. or there abouts, with a festive meal
planned for the 4:00 hour.  The Cotters will provide the
meat; everyone else can bring a side dish or dessert and the
beverage of their choice.
